Owner, President | Pastry Chef | Internationally Licensed Wedding Planner | Villa Manager, Florian | Masters of Social Work, University of Wisconsin | 18 year resident of St. John
As owner and principal planner at St. John Wedding Planner, Kati oversees every detail of each wedding she helps to design. She has built her business from the ground up. Starting off slowly but gathering momentum she has gathered an abundance of practical education in the hospitality industry and specifically on how to operate a successful business onSt. John. Paired with her Masters in Counseling and formal education, Kati has become an expert in small business success. Serving customers from her own kitchen as a Pastry Chef and then later as a Private Chef, Kati is acutely aware of the needs of the catering department but has found her passion cultivating her bride’s wedding days into attainable dreams. Still, Kati can often be found finishing the fine points of a wedding cake and tying the bows on a gift basket as it goes out the door. Loyalty and commitment to both her customers, whom often become friends, and her staff, has made her business thrive.
Kati came to St. John in 1993 with $250 in her pocket and the hopes of finding a warmer future, having left the cold winters of Michigan. She started off cleaning charter sail boats and eventually began acting as the Chef on chartered cruises. Moving through the ranks of the sailing service elite was challenging and no sooner was she established amongst such rental agencies, Hurricane Marilyn hit. Disappointed but not beaten, Kati started over again and relocated from St. Thomas to St. John. In 1995 she began building relationships in the service industry that are now firmly cemented through longevity and symbiotic successes. It was more than 15 seasons ago that Kati delivered her first welcome basket to guests arriving on island. Today, though not always common place, she still drops off a basket now and then to gauge guests’ reactions to them as their first encounter with her or either of her companies, Weddings by KatiLady and KatiLady Catering.
Becoming a full time wedding planner on St. John was not always the intention but true to form, Kati, rose to the call. Client demand was the primary reason for entering into this portion of the business though it surprisingly brought her instantaneous joy to be part of the organization and not just the execution of a wedding. That was nearly 14 years ago and she has thrown herself into the process of providing the best options available to couples on St. John. While, Kati happily admits her first love is St. John, she also loves planning the unions that begin on this beautiful island. She brings everything she is into a couple’s special day, dedicated to the idea that any bride with any budget can create a dream wedding on what is already a dream landscape. Kati’s experience is a treasure trove for visitors, guests and brides alike.
As a member of the Association of Wedding Planners, Kati works to raise the bar in Destination Weddings. St. John holds her heart but Kati has begun the process of providing couples with options throughout the world, with emphasis in the Caribbean. Kati attends yearly Wedding Planning Conventions emphasizing her incredible thirst for growth and knowledge keeping her abreast of all the next big developments in the industry. This puts Weddings by KatiLady and St. John Wedding Planner in direct competition with other major Wedding Planners as far away as New York City and Cabo San Lucas.
It’s great to hear from you! Wedding was great, honeymoon was great…I thought the execution of the wedding day was wonderful, both by you, Waterfront Bistro and really everyone else involved…The ceremony was beautiful, and although I was really stressed out up to the very end (more so about my make up than anything else, but that turned out just perfect, thanks to Saphia), I was very relaxed after the ceremony and really enjoyed the party, which is really all any bride can ask for!… There were definitely a few things we didn’t plan out to the tee, but the whole thing turned out great anyways. We truly had a great time, and I’m most certain the guests did as well. Btw, that was the yummiest wedding cake I’ve ever had…thanks again!”

Thank you so much for everything you did for the wedding. The wedding and reception were everything we wanted and more. The food especially was AMAZING and everybody loved it! Michelle and the staff were great and everything came together and was incredible. Thank you again for everything and if we ever decided to come back to St. John and renew our vows you’ll be hearing from us :-)”
